Introduction
Just like we judge people we’re dating on how they treat the waitstaff (well, at least I do LOL), as a society, we also judge celebrities on their tipping habits. You guessed it, the Material Girl herself, Madonna is allegedly NOT a very generous tipper. It’s been reported that Madonna often leaves little to no tip, even for exceptional service (no second date for you!). This habit has not gone unnoticed and has negatively impacted her image, painting a less-than-flattering picture of the Queen of Pop.
Celebrity Tipping Habits
So, what can we learn from celebrity tipping habits?
We can discuss the very controversial FL bill, HB 535. The proposed law states that if someone feels that the service they received in a restaurant is not good, they won’t have to pay a tip or service charge. This means if you have a complaint about your meal or service, you can express it (Express Yourself!) and not feel pressured to leave a tip. Additionally, tips (or service charges) can only be AUTOMATICALLY added to the bill for large groups (party of six or more people).
Important Notice for Restaurant Patrons
Finally, restaurants must let customers know who is getting the tip or service charge and how much it is. If this proposed law passes, it will go into effect on July 1, 2025. I’ll be sure to keep y’all posted!
The current Florida statutes already requires restaurants to provide a service charge notifications on the menus and on the customer’s receipts.
ConclusionSo, there you have it. We learn that just because you’re inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a Celebration in a restaurant (couldn’t resist!).
