Pierce Brosnan became a widower at age 38. His wife of 17 years, Cassandra Harris, died from ovarian cancer in 1991. Brosnan and Harris had one son together, and he adopted her two children from a previous marriage, Charlotte and Christopher, after their father died in 1986. Tragically, Charlotte Harris also died of ovarian cancer in 2013, when she was 41.
So, what can we learn from the widower 007?
We can discuss the Florida tax exemptions for widowed or disabled residents. In 2023, the tax breaks to these qualifying residents are expected to increase from $500 to $5,000. Did you even know that there was an exemption for widows, widowers, or disabled individuals? You do now!
There’s even better news – the qualifying residents from prior years would be grandfathered in. This means that there’s nothing for folks that have been receiving these benefits to do. If you’ve been receiving the widow or disabled tax exemption historically, you should see a larger deduction in property taxes for this year. Yay!!!
And there you have it. We learn that Florida is a great State to both live and die in, and we want to give a big thank you to the State legislators who sponsored the above bill.
